Amanda Acorn's 'multiform'

In the solo multiform, Toronto-based choreographer Amanda Acorn draws from the work and writing of painter Mark Rothko. A love letter to perpetual motion and testament to body magic, she builds hypnotic cycles of movement repeated ad-infinitum. A singular body is both mechanism and magician; a perpetually pulsating, thrashing and undulating energy object. multiform compels us toward continued, exhaustive watching, dissolving the boundaries between abstract form and its containment through choreography.

Pumped to announce the nights dj's...

Dj Carlyle Mark has been playing for over 20 years. He takes pride in mixing/blending music and his style can be classified as smooth and versatile. Although he is a lover of many genres of music, he loves to play old school/funk, classic/soulful house, vintage hip hop, soul, retro, rare grooves and original breaks.... leaving you with a feeling of nostalgia.

A DJ for 15 plus years, Scott G got his love of dance music from working in the iconic Vancouver nightclubs, Sonar, The Chameleon and The Lotus in his early twenties. Heavily influenced by the rare groove scene of the early 2000’s, Scott plays anything soulful and organic. Keep an open mind and your dancing shoes on. Pop classics, disco edits, 80s funk, Italo and dirty deep soulful house are all on the menu.

ADRIAN GLYNN
morethanlight album release preview
&
REVOLUTIONS OF THE SMILE

.................//

SYNTH POP AND WEIRD SH*T

ABOUT ADRIAN GLYNN

Glynn shows his incredible lyrical skills, wedged somewhere between the storytelling whimsy of Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam and the honesty of Josh Ritter
— Vancouver Sun

After a busy year touring Europe with Canadian folk phenoms, The Fugitives, and portraying villains on the silver screen (a stitch-mouthed menace in the series Arrow and a soldier in Leonardo DiCaprio’s nightmares in The Revenant), Glynn returns with his most innovative musical outing yet.

Produced by Canadian indie heroes, The Zolas, Adrian Glynn’s sophomore release, morelightthannolight, is a brave new foray into what can best be described as “electrofolk”. Playing banjos through spring pedals and layering lush synth landscapes over dense vocal harmonies, Glynn, along with Zach and Tom (The Zolas), looked to find a sonic interplay between the neon of cityscapes and the creaks in our walls.

A departure from Glynn’s dusty and desolate first solo release (2011’s award-nominated Bruise), morelightthannolight is a melding of old and new, a meditation on the twilight of youth and the ever-shifting palette of our emotional lives. These themes are stitched together through songs about Oscar Wilde’s arrest at the Cadogan Hotel, to a hapless guardian angel reaching frayed ends with his ward, to the guiding of a canoe through the city in the dead of night. This is the hype and the melancholy of morelightthannolight.

ABOUT REVOLUTIONS OF THE SMILE
Dave Biddle is 6'2", 210 lbs, right handed, size 12 feet, instrument: saxophone, resting heart rate of 70 bpm, favourite season is winter, but it's only autumn now, october leaves like deaths fireworks - they make for a pretty descent into the tail end of rebirth, a cyclical attraction to the Eternal Return™. Accompanying Dave is flautist Ashleigh Ball, who finds sanctuary in time as a succession of individual moments never to be repeated again. Ash is volcanic in tone and demeanor; she draws warmth up from the earths core in a violent and beautiful gesture. Together they are Revolutions of the Smile.

Brady Marks Performs (Solo)

"2 VCOs and A Microphone" (~5min)

A tonic break beating of minimal proportions: This performance is an improvisation to create and destroy the boundaries between beats and drone using Beat Frequencies. And, in a parody of Beck's line "Two Turntables and a Microphone" (Where It's At, 1996) I will introduce Failed Vocal Harmony to the Synthesis Chain, as a contrast to the Mathematical Purity & Fetish Value of the Analog VCO which is the Current Analogue of the Turntable's Cultural Cache held the 90's.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About Co.Crea.Tive

The Co.nstrained Crea.tions Collec.Tive gathers artists from different disciplines interested into the exploration of constrained improvisations.

Starting from the concept of free improvisation – a form of music that does not entail predetermined rules nor idiomatic connotations – we challenge our practice through the imposition of piece-wise constraints. As opposed to the definition of a structure, constraints push us out of our artistic comfort zone and hinder the retreat to known patterns.

This approach is then extended to different forms of expression, with a twofold purpose: first, to foster experimentalism, develop personal style, defy our mastery of instruments and bodily expression; second, to help us tell a story to the audience, so as to offer also to non-artists a breach over the complex domain of creative improv.
